The Charge Up workplace EV charger grant program is a government initiative in Western Australia aimed at accelerating the adoption of electric vehicles (EVs) and supporting businesses in establishing EV charging infrastructure.

Through the Charge Up workplace grants, eligible businesses in Western Australia can receive financial support to install EV charging stations on their premises.

Key details for EV Charger Grant

Round Two of the Charge Up workplace grants program in Western Australia has an allocation of $12.5 million. 

Charge Up just got faster. Round two Charge Up Workplace Grants include faster direct current (DC) chargers up to 350kW.
 
Round 2 is NOW OPEN until 3 May 2024 and includes both AC chargers (7 to 22kW) and DC chargers (25kW to 350kW in size). 

Workplace Charging Scheme

    • 50% of the purchase cost of EV chargers from an approved list.

    • 50% of installation costs.
      For chargers smaller than 150kW there is a funding cap of $5,000 per site in the Greater Perth area and $10,000 for regional and remote areas (funding caps are GST exclusive)
      For chargers that are 150kW or greater there is a funding cap of $10,000 per site in the Greater Perth area and $20,000 for regional and remote areas (funding caps are GST exclusive)

    • 50% of electricity network costs associated with the charger installation
      A funding cap of up to $150,000 per site applies for Western Power network costs.
      A funding cap of up to $150,000 per site applies for Horizon Power network costs.
       
    • 50% of the cost of a 2-year EV charger software subscription from an approved list.
       

To be eligible for the grant, applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • Charging primarily during daytime hours (9am to 5pm) or overnight (9pm to 9am). Applicants must make it more attractive for
    drivers to charge during the day (9am to 5pm)
    and/or overnight (9pm to 9am), compared to
    during the evening (5pm to 9pm)
  • Installing the EV charger at a location within Western Australia.
  • Belonging to one of the following types of organizations:
    – Not-for-profits registered with the Australian Charities and Not-for-profits Commission (ACNC).
    – Local government authorities established under the Local Government Act 1995.
    – Small to medium enterprises as defined by the Australian Bureau of Statistics, with less than 20 employees for small businesses or between 20 and 199 employees for medium businesses.
    – Charge point operators
    SMEs that wish to install the charger(s) at a site as a charge point operator are eligible for funding if installation of the charger(s) would not be commercially viable without grant funding, and a substantial proportion of site occupants are eligible organisations with access to the charger(s) 

The grant can fund EV charging infrastructure in the following situations:

  • Destination Charging: Charging at locations where people typically spend a few hours, such as tourist attractions, cafes, wineries, beaches, swimming pools, parks, or outdoor leisure facilities.
  • Car Parks: Charging infrastructure for eligible organizations’ employee and visitor parking areas.
  • Fleet Vehicles: Chargers intended to support the conversion of fleets to EVs.
